Italian Genealogy

Found a great site if you need a little help with your Italian Genealogy search!  http://www.italiangenealogy.com/ is a forum I stumbled across!  After years of researching the Mauro/Aventino branch of our family tree I finally was ready to admit defeat...no records of parents names on death certificates, obituaries etc here in the US.  To find anything else I would have to research Italian Records (and I do not know how to read or write Italian).  I took a chance, and posted a question about my Mauro ancestor on the blog....believe it or not there was a response from a gentleman in the US who happened to have the microfilm for the birth year and the town of my ancestors birth!  In less than a day he found my ancestor's birth record and emailed me a copy as well as posted a image on the forum...in less than 10 minutes someone else on the forum TRANSLATED the birth record!

If you are looking for any help at all with Italian translation or record search I highly recommend taking a chance and posting your question on a forum here!  "Migliori Auguri !!"

NBC's New Show Who Do You Think You Are

I'm so excited!  NBC is premiering a "reality based" tv show on March 5th.  Celebrities will explore their ancestors to form their family tree!    I'm looking forward to watching this show for the tips it will provide to each of us who are searching our own trees.  Perhaps our trees will somehow connect with one of theirs?  I'll be ready with a notepad and paper while watching!!!   oohhh....DVR needs to be set too!  Wouldn't that be the best?  They do the research on national television of an ancestor that just happens to be one of yours???

I hope this show helps ignite a passion in you to discover your own tree and who you are!   Here's the link if you want to watch a preview:  http://www.nbc.com/who-do-you-think-you-are/

Stepanovich Family Photos

I made the inquiry to Sam's family this week to obtain old photos of the Stepanovich and Aventino families.  I am really looking forward to borrowing them in order to digitize them for our online tree!  I have a great camera--a Canon PowerShot A630 that takes wonderful Macro photos.  I simply photograph each photo using my macro setting and faster than a scanner I have the photo digitized!

Ohio Death Certificate Ancestor search

When searching for records of  ancestors who have lived in Ohio I have found searching Ohio Death Records is very helpful. Family Search has Ohio death certificates for deaths occurring between 1908 and 1953. Their search engine is very easy to navigate and you can even see the actual death certificate as well as save the death certificate as a jpg on your hard drive.

Ancestry iPhone App

Breaking news in my email today...Ancestry.com and iPhone have teamed together to create an iPhone app! How often have you heard a story from a relative that you have to write on a napkin so you don't forget to add it to your tree? Now you can access your tree via your iPhone! Sure wish I HAD an iphone! ;)
